Coconut Wireless Podcast shares Pasifika stories bringing listeners the behind-the-scenes insights of athletes. Hosted by Jeremey Lardner, Coconut Wireless highlights the achievements of Pacific Islander men and women, primarily in the sporting field. Nick ‘Slick’ Kepu was invited as a guest and shared the mic with Jeremy earlier this year.
They spoke about Kepu’s recent win as a professional middleweight MMA fighter against Alfred Stoddart, his training routine, and the path Kepu’s on towards his goal of the UFC.
On his most recent fight, Kepu gave the Beatdown Promotions crowd a knockout with a gazelle left hook in the first round. When asked by Lardner how he landed the flurry of strikes to his opponent in such quick succession, Kepu shared his inspiration and the athletes he studies in combat sport. Mark Hunt, Justin Tafa and Junior Tafa were named - fellow Samoan MMA athletes that have gone before Kepu, fighting under the lights in the UFC.
Their hands aren’t the only thing that Nick Slick admires. Whether on stage singing, or fighting in the cage, Kepu believes in entertaining his audience and giving them something to talk about.
During the podcast, Lardner also asks about Nick Kepu’s idols and who he looks up to, where Kepu took the opportunity to share his faith. Hitting 30 last year, Kepu spoke on how his lifestyle and life stage keeps him humbled, preferring to enjoy the weekends with his family and attend church, his easy-going character a contrast to his aggression in the cage.
